Photography course

Portrait

The photography course that started on Monday 16th June is proving to be very popular. Everyone involved has enjoyed being creative as the above picture shows! Tom Edenbrow who facilitates the group showed everyone how to create 'Gold Portraits'. The effect is done by tracing the outline of a photographic image onto gold card and using black marker pen to produce the final result.

The group is now closed because the course is full.

Womens singing group

Singing

The womens singing group that started on Wednesday 18th June is going well and has been well attended. Niall Gigha who runs the group has been inspiring the ladies to try different vocal techniques and voice warm-ups.

Niall said "I was pleasantly surprised by the enthusiam of the ladies to join in and share their voices"

The group is an opportunity to learn how to sing in harmony with other women. There is also a possiblity of continuing after the 6 week course to create a community choir. We welcome anyone who is interested in singing regardless of skill.

Cultural Awareness

Cultural awareness

Cultural Diversity Session

The South Asian Cultural Awareness training which took place on Monday 23rd June, was an informative and interactive session which helped to raise the awareness of South Asian communities.  The group focused on similarities as well as acknowledging the importance of religion/spirituality for these communities. The group had an opportunity to look at religious and cultural images and artefacts as well as ask lots of questions.

The group also had henna (temporary tattoo) applied to their hands and discussed the relevance of this, when it is applied and its purpose.

Zile and Yasmine, who presented the session, would like to thank all those who attended and Mandy (also known as the food guru) from blueSCI’s internet cafe who brought in artefacts which represented the identity and main principles of the Sikh community.
