Greater Manchester West Mental Health Foundation Team
get Green Fingered!

Following our 2nd place in the Dragons Den Journeys to Health initiative (http://www.journeystohealth.org) and award of £250, the communications team visited the allotments in August to get green fingered and explore the health benefits of organic growing site for themselves. Here we can see everybody getting to grips with freshly grown herbs, garlic and tomatoes in the polytunnel on a guided tour.
Jackie said we hope to work more promoting good mental health and the benefits of allotments for the community.
August Allotment Open Day a Success
Many thanks to everybody who attended the community open day on August 15 organised by the main allotment site. The scary scarecrow trail was a great success. Our scarecrow was awarded third prize!

Grassroots Funding Awarded
We have been awarded £2000 by the Grassroots Fund. The award shall be used over the next few months to support the community allotment, including the installation of a new polytunnel cover. We shall also use the money to buy gardening tools and cooking equipment for sessions on site. So watch this space!
Trip to Manchester Art Gallery
On 11 May members of the Community Allotment travelled together to Manchester Art Gallery to see the Held Exhibition.
The exhibition was organised by Start Manchester and contained multi-media sculpture, photography and animation based on the theme of well-being.
We were able to marvel at the work of allotment member David Chorlton who has taken inspiration from gardening to create a fine clay sculpture called Looking to the Future. Well done David!
